Beating the Vacation Bloat

Alright friends, I know I’m not alone in dreading the Vacation Bloat…  And let’s be real, when we say “bloat” we often mean constipation or other GI issues, so let’s just put that right out in front.  We know what we are addressing here!

Whether you are traveling for vacation, dance competitions, or your day job, anytime we veer away from our regular eating habits and regular routines things can become, well, irregular.  It’s not just a matter of physical health, which is of course top priority, but it is also just very frustrating to feel bloated the few days per year we get to live in our swimsuits at the beach, or even more frustrating to feel bloated wearing head-to-toe rhinestones about to step out onto the competition dance floor.   So, what can we realistically do about it?  Here are a few of my favorite tips that Trent and I put into action on our most recent trip to the Dominican Republic.

Breakfast.

I found most places you go have yogurt around (even better if it’s Greek yogurt for protein content - but we take what we can find!) and since Trent and I had been to this resort before we knew they had yogurt available at breakfast.  To boost our morning protein consumption I brought travel packets of the Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides, as well as my favorite Probiotic Granola (I use 1/3 cup), to mix into our morning yogurts.  Both of these are dry ingredients, both super easy to travel with, it was perfect. Protein & Probiotics for the win.

I also took my regular morning supplements, including my daily probiotic, which definitely assists in keeping the gut balanced and happy at home and on the road.

Lunch & Dinner.

We ate what we wanted!  On vacation I know that I’m going to go off track from my regular nutrition routine, and that is okay, however I do still try to find ways to get protein and vegetables in where I can, and stay hydrated!  What I found was also very helpful was increasing my digestive enzyme to one to two capsules per meal (at home I usually just take one capsule with breakfast – so this increased from one a day to three+ a day while traveling). I just popped a few digestive enzymes into a pill bottle for my beach bag so we had them on hand!

It wasn’t a huge effort or change from our regular vacation routine, but it definitely helped us both feel better and more comfortable.  Even after a week of all-inclusive resort living – which speaks volumes!

These are simple tips, but Trent and I found them to be super helpful in keeping the bloat at bay, and feeling more like our regular selves while being out of our regular routines!
